I come from Daegu which was the center of the COVID-19 pandemic in Korea. Both the local city and the national government authorities reported, to the public, every detail relating to the problems and circumstances of the victims. Nothing was hidden or kept secret. The people of Korea were kept updated and informed about every aspect of the pandemic. Such transparency helped us to solve, together, the various problems and made the people constantly aware of the dangers of the pandemic. This transparency also encouraged people to cooperate with the government’s policies for containing pandemic.
In short, the people placed their trust in the government and their policies. I think this was a miracle. Normally, the Korean people distrust all government when it comes to handling national tragedies and difficulties. However, on this occasion the people followed the government guidelines. As a result, the government party successfully won the national elections held in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
Another result of the practice of transparency was to encourage a high level of civic consciousness among the people. Each person rose to the challenge of wearing a mask and washing their hands regularly. All these factors helped to stop the pandemic.

Each country must decide on the level of lockdown required and, in turn, ask its people to cooperate with their policies on the pandemic. However, if there is no transparency and people are left in the dark about how the pandemic is being handled, it is difficult to encourage people to cooperate and support anti-pandemic policies.
In the context of our mission, an important value must always be transparency. Our world cries out to everyone and every organization to practice and promote transparency at both community and personal levels.

I believe that our relationship with God demands transparency. The pandemic of COVID-19 and ways of dealing with it have witnessed to us the profound value of transparency in 2020.
